I thought this was because i had the beta version and it wasn't compatible somehow with the release version. So i decided to simply delete local content and re-install. But during install i get this error message 'not enough disk space', when a few steps earlier it clearly said i have 174307MB free and the game requires 259MB. What's going on here? Is it a Steam problem or a Don't Starve problem? At the moment i can't play this game at all. Adobe reader for mac 10.6. As i said, i'm playing on Win XP.
I'd like to get OS X back on said laptop, but I can't find a way to do this as I can't find any installation media images and the other tools (such as the OS X Recovery Disk Assistant) require access to another Mac. I have no access to another OS X device at the moment. Free download mp3. Ideally I'd just like an El Capitan ISO (or Yosemite, or whatever, I don't really care at this point) that I can burn to a DVD and boot/install from. Any suggestions?

I got so frustrated that I deleted all of steam and tried reinstalling it, but when i started reinstalling garry's mod, it kept telling me i didn't have enough disk space when i was putting it on a 1/4 full terrabyte hard drive.
If you are around 15GB of free space, you are running pretty low. That said, I'm not sure why you wouldn't be able to install some smaller games anyway. It's possible the Mac is holding on to some of that space for a page file or something similar. As far as the Library folder you were talking about in your first post, the User Library was hidden starting in 10.6 or 10.7. To get there, click on Finder, then at the top of the screen select Go, then Go to Folder.
I really hope that 40gb Titanfall business was just incompetence and not a harbinger of things to come. Games are going to keep getting bigger as they get more advanced. Only way to avoid that is for games to stop advancing. Which would suck. Not necessarily.

But that doesn't change anything. Games are getting bigger. That's not going to stop. If you refuse to ever buy a game that requires more than 40 gb, then in 10 years, you're going to be playing nothing but decade old games and a bunch of low-spec indie titles. Maybe you're fine with that. I don't know. But for those of us who intend to keep playing AAA, big-budget games every now and again, when good ones come along, we're going to have to deal with bigger installs.

Obviously, I don't think we'll ever fit games on a 5.25' floppies ever again. But I've declined to buy games solely because they were too big. I was never interested in Titanfall to begin with. I haven't put D3 back on my system just because it's too big. My 2 cents that nobody else will like. Well that's all fine and dandy for you, if you don't want to play Titanfall or D3.
