Sophos vs Malwarebytes Bytes. By Ryan1640 on May 30, 2013 at 17:35 UTC. I was thinking of just going with the paid version of malware bytes vs using Sophos and AVG. Right now I'd say Sophos or Panda for AV. MalwareBytes is more of an IT tool.
Sophos Home Free (for Mac) keeps configuration to a minimum and gets good scores both in independent lab tests and our own hands-on tests. It's a fine choice for protecting your Macs without. It is generally understood the on a PC Malwarebytes is the only way that one can block ransom ware. A high five for that. At the same time is also generally understood that the Mac OS X is immune from Malware (adware can get into a mac but it is not malishious and thus not deemed to be Malware). If your Mac is too fast for every day use, clearly get the snake oil from Sophos! /s Malwarebytes is basically fine, but does only do checks when you start it. 'Antivirus'-Software gets deep into the system to try and find any malware while you do every day work.

For everyone, got the Malwarebytes premium trial. Downloaded intentional crack file to check, Malwarebytes didn't detected, Sophos did and removed - I agree it can be false positive. So, now I downloaded the eicar test file (look it up it's authentic test file) Malwarebytes didn't detected anything, I even scanned the various eicar test files manually with Malwarebytes. It didn't detected while it should cause it's a eicar malware. Got the Sophos Premium activate again. Downloaded Eicar but within a few seconds it removed eicar test file from downloads folder.
